SouthCoast

The first-ever all-Filipino band in Portsmouth, United Kingdon

History

SouthCoast the Beginning:

Year 2006 when a group of Filipino nurses with musical tendencies coming from different backgrounds decided to form a band out of their spare time. Aldrin Datanagan, who works in Eye Department of Queen Alexandra Hospital and a musical maestro in his own right, picked some music talents who were either playing for fun or as an outlet to vent their frustrations and angst. The result was AEROS Band the core group of what will be the eventual members of SouthCoast.

Musical differences were gradually ironed out practice after practice, night after night - and there was an immediate spark when the band performed their first-ever gig on January 2007 infront of a sell-out crowd in St. Marys Girls School in North End, Portsmouth. Their music ranged from alt-pop, post-punk, R&B, neo-jazz and everything in-between these genre. It was a melting pot of musical influences typical of the Filipino characteristics and attitude towards music. Clearly, it was the start of something worthwhile, something beyond expectations of everyone involve in the band.

Then, out of their desire to reach-out to the less fortunate souls living in appalling conditions back home in the Philippines SouthCoast was born, decided to play their own brand of music to raise awareness for the charity work of The Philippine Community Fund. They believe that the best way to extend a helping hand to this noble deed is to play their music to a bigger audience, promote Filipino culture and raise money for the school being built at the dumpsite around Metro Manila, Philippines for the benefit of those forgotten children in Tondo and Payatas.
